Great contests might end in a win or a defeat but something as lucrative as the Cricket World Cup, always comes with a grand prize.
After securing their $800,000 prize money for finishing as one of the four semi-finalists, India also received a sum total of $2,80,000 ($40,000*7) courtesy the group stages.
Combining the prize money earned during the group stages (₹1,90,40,000) & during the semi-final (₹5,44,00,000), India earned rewards up to $10,80,000 or ₹7,34,40,000, reports Sportskeeda.
While the winners, England, earned a purse of $4 million, the runners-up New Zealand earned $2 million.
Afghanistan, which lost 10 out of their 10 games too earned a piece of the pie. They took home $100,000 despite struggling to open their account.
While the prize money for winning a group stage game reduced from $45,000 to $40,000, the winning prize for a semi-finalist increased by $2,00,000 ($6,00,000 to $8,00,000).
