Former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni, reached another milestone in his already illustrious career during the first ODI against Australia at the Chepauk stadium on Sunday. With his 88-ball 79, the wicket-keeper batsman brought up his 66th ODI fifty and 100th overall across all formats.
Dhoni is the fourth Indian to score 100 fifties in international cricket after Sachin Tendulkar (164), Rahul Dravid (146) and Sourav Ganguly (107), overall he is the 13th international cricketer.
The Ranchi lad has been in a great form since the turn of the year. He averages 89.57 in ODIs in 2017 in comparison to last year’s average of 27.80. Dhoni has so far scored 627 runs in 14 innings this year, including a century and five fifties.
The former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain is loved by the local crowd and he has always said that he considers the city his second home. Dhoni received a roaring welcome when he came to out bat and there’s no doubt that he loves to bat in Chennai. He averages 100-plus in ODIs at Chepauk. In six innings, Dhoni has amassed 401 runs, including two hundreds and a fifty, at an average of 100.25.
In IPL, Dhoni led CSK to two league titles in 2010 and 2011.
His innings was yet another proof that Dhoni is the biggest match-winner in ODIs. The wicket-keeper averages over 75 in wins in ODIs. In 170 matches, the Jharkhand cricketer has racked up 5878 runs at an average of 75.35 – the highest among batsmen with atleast 4000 runs in wins.
