Indian cricket legend Mithali Raj has announced retirement from T20 format to focus her energies on the ODI World Cup, 2021.
Mithali made the announcement today, saying that it has been her dream to win the World Cup for India and she wants to give it her all.
It remains my dream to win a World Cup for my country and I want to give it my best. I thank the BCCI for their continuous support and wish the Indian T20 team good luck as they prepare for the home series against South Africa Women.
While further adding:
After representing India in T20 internationals since 2006, I wish to retire from T20Is to focus my energies on readying myself for the 2021 One Day World Cup.
Mithali has led India in 32 T20I matches, including 3 World Cups in 2012, 2014 and 2016. She amassed 2364 runs – which is the highest in the country for the format.
She was also the first Indian woman to amass 2000 T20I runs.
Well, we only hope her dream of winning the World Cup for India comes true. Thank you for everything, Mithali.
