Underdogs Ireland overcame 2-time world champions West Indies in their 2015 World Cup opener by 4 wickets. The Windies had posted 304/7 but the Irishmen comfortably reached 307/6 with 25 balls to spare.

The Man of the Match was Irishman Paul Stirling who scored 92 runs off just 84 balls which set the tone for the win. He received able support from Ed Joyce who scored a fast-paced 84 of just 67 balls to keep the run rate high.

Towards the end, Ireland lost 3 wickets in quick succession but a neat 79 from Niall O’Brien off just 60 balls saw the side reach the target with ease.

Earlier, Lendl Simmons had struck 102 off only 84 balls for the Windies but it went in vain. Darren Sammy had also added 89.
