India began its Asia Cup in emphatic fashion, beating Thailand 4-1. It was India’s first Asia Cup win in 55 years, and the team’s biggest win ever.
India won a penalty in the 27th minute which was duly converted by Sunil Chhetri. However, Thailand managed to get an equaliser in the 33rd minute, going into half-time on level terms.
The second half however, was a different story. India started the second half on a brighter note. Sunil Chhetri capped a sweeping move that he began, scoring his second of the day on the 46th minute.
Youngster Anirudh Thapa chipped the keeper for his first India goal, while Jeje broke his own barren spell with a goal.
Sunil Chhetri is now the second highest scorer in international football.
India is currently first in their table. The team will take on UAE on 10th January.
