When our furry little best friends are napping, what goes on in their adorable minds? Do they dream about chasing cars, do they dream of snuggling with their favourite toy, or do they dream of an all-you-can-eat buffet of treats? Well, the question of what exactly it is that pets dream about when they sleep, has finally been answered by a Harvard psychologist.

Dr. Deirdre Barrett, a teacher and a Clinical and Evolutionary Psychologist at Harvard Medical School, has told People that dogs are likely dreaming about their owners.

She says that while there’s no way to know for sure what dogs are seeing when they dream, it’s safe to assume that their dreams draw from everyday experiences, like humans. She explained this theory in relation to the way human dreams work.

And the realisation that their adorable, cuddly friends are likely dreaming of their faces hit pet owners around the world right in the feels.

A tweet that put Dr. Barrett’s findings together with shots of a dog sound asleep has got over 61,000 retweets in about 4 days.

And the rest of the animal-loving world wide web turned into a big pile of mush and chimed in with pictures of their pets dreaming of their owners.

And honestly, you don’t even have to have pets for this bit of information to absolutely melt your heart.
