11 Verses To Remind Us Of The Peace-Loving India We Seem To Have Left Far Behind

Shabdita Pareek

India has always been hailed as a country with unity in diversity. With people of different religions speaking different languages and following different traditions living together in harmony, India has set before the world a true example of being a leader of peace and spirituality.

Sadly, the recent incidents of lynching & barbaric murders in the name of religion contradict with this image of India that we’ve believed in since childhood. It feels like we’ve only made progress in terms of science & technology but our morals have degraded to such an extent that we can’t seem to tolerate one another at all.

Back in the day, when we were a newly independent country, the poets wrote about the India where people understood each other, where respect for one another was the way of life. Such was our India.

Here are excerpts from some of the poems about an India that we seem to have left far behind.
