Sreesanth Set To Be BJP’s Star Candidate In Kerala Polls?

Is one of India’s most controversial cricketers, S Sreesanth set to contest to be a lawmaker? According to one report, the Bharatiya Janata Party is planning to rope in Sreesanth to contest the upcoming elections in Kerala. 

According to a Mathrubhumi report, the BJP central leadership has asked the state unit to initiate procedings to bring in Sreesanth as a candidate. He is being considered as a candidate for the constituencies of Tripunithura and Ernakulam for Sreesanth.

However, the news is yet to be confirmed as the cricketer is still to take a final decision. The cricketer will hold talks with the party chief Amit Shah after which an official announcement will be made.

Sreesanth, who played for India and Kerala, was accused of being part of a match fixing racket in the Indian Premier League that was busted by the Delhi Police in 2013. However, he is presently out on bail. He has been suspended by the BCCI over the controversy and is still to face trial in the case. 

Interestingly, the cricketer’s father-in-law, Hitendra Singh Shekhawat has close links with Madhya Pradeh BJP leaders, reports Manorama.
