It’s pretty daunting to be the Congress’s chief ministerial candidate in Uttar Pradesh for an election in which no one gives you a chance. So former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit must definitely not be very pleased about the fact that her first road show made more headlines for a stage that collapsed than what she said.
The 78-year-old Congress veteran lost her balance after the plank she was standing on gave way when the cavalcade was on its way to the party headquarters on Mall Avenue from the Lucknow airport.
So this is what happened as Dikshit braved intermittent showers to wave at people:
Dikshit was extended a helping hand by other leaders present there and later shifted to a car, a senior party functionary said.
But the former chief minister also showed that she was in battle mode with a speech in which she said the state had suffered after it stopped electing Congress governments to power.
“There is no alternative to the Congress. What the people suffered during the non-Congress rule everybody knows. What the people suffers in the last 27 years when others ruled the state is evident,” she said, reported Economic Times.
