Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who shot down a Pakistani F-16 jet during a fight over the LOC, is most likely to be awarded the Vir Chakra, reports Hindustan Times.
Along with Abhinandan, who played a key role on February 27 this year, five other aces who were part of the Balakot incident from the Mirage-2000 jets will also be felicitated by the government.
They are said to be receiving the Vayu Sena Medal for gallantry.
It was decided a few days ago that all the combatants of the Balakot mission will be awarded with top military honours.
Commander Varthaman was hailed as a national hero for scripting history by shooting down an F-16 plane.
Experts believed it was the first time in history that an F-16 was shot down by a MiG-21 Bison, since both jets belong to different generations altogether.
Commander Abhinandan Varthaman who was captured after bailing out of his airplane was brought back to India on March 1 after Pakistan held him captive for almost 60 hours.
