The wife of Jharkhand man who was lynched over rumours of carrying beef on Thursday has accused members of Hindu right-wing group Bajrang Dal for killing her husband, a report in Hindustan Times says.

“They were rogues owing allegiance to Bajrang Dal,” Mariam Khatoon told the newspaper while referring to the persons responsible for her husband’s death.

Khatoon also debunked claims that her husband Alimuddin aka Asgar Aki was a beef trader and said he was into coal trading.

“He was the only earning member of the family,” Khatoon, a mother of six children said.

Alimuddin’s lynching took place the same day Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned that killings in the name of cow protection won’t be tolerated.

One of the 13 people accused of Alimuddin’s lynching was arrested on Friday as Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das directed the police to nab the culprits behind mob lynchings.

The state government announced Rs 2 lakh compensation for the dependents of the deceased.

In New Delhi, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Friday denounced the lynching incidents and other kinds of violence as “condemnable and barbaric” and appealed against giving a political or communal angle to such cases.
