On Friday, just as everyone was trying make sense of Brexit and its impact on the world, a message began doing the rounds. Only this one claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been declared best PM by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It was circulating on many social media platforms including WhatsApp and Twitter.
While Modi supporters on social media went gaga over the announcement, none of them seemed to question the veracity of the message. So Twitter was flooded with messages congratulating PM Modi and also expressing pride in being an Indian.
“Bhaiyo aur Behannnnno” is decleared as
Best Dialoge By @UNESCO just few minuts ago!#ProudMoment #Respect— Zaheen Siddiqui (@absolutlyzeenu) June 25, 2016
Obviously Kejriwal was dragged in here too
There were some alternate titles suggested
Even Salman Khan was not spared
Some more
And finally
This is not the first time such a hoax has fooled Indians. Back in 2008, an email sent to may ids claimed that UNESCO had declared Indian National Anthem as the best in the world. The announcement had created such a buzz that the UNESCO had to officially declare that no such title was conferred.
