The West Indies won their first ever U-19 World Cup, defeating India by five wickets on 14 February in Mirpur, Bangladesh.

The Indians posted a paltry 145 runs on the board but managed to make a game of it with some timely breakthroughs. However, Keacy Carty and Keemo Paul forged a patient 77-run partnership to see the Windies home.

With the country’s cricket scenario engulfed in player strikes and administrative problems, the victory was a timely reminder to those who thought cricket was dead in the Caribbean.
