Delhi and parts of North India continued to be affected by fog on Thursday with many trains and flights being delayed.
According to a report by the Hindustan Times, several flights in and out of Delhi were either delayed or cancelled due to low visibility at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International airport. More than 90 inbound and outbound trains were also delayed. At 8 am, temperature recorded was 11 degree celsius.
On Wednesday, 81 trains were running late while three were cancelled and 12 rescheduled due to dense fog.
The number of departing flights delayed due to Delhi weather stood at 38, DIAL said in a statement. The average delay at the airport was about two hours.
Foggy conditions also prevailed in cities like Lucknow and Amritsar as both the cities recorded temperatures of 12 degrees Celsius around 8 am, reports NDTV.
The fog also meant air quality in many cities deteriorated.
In Delhi, levels of particulate matter recorded at Delhi Pollution Control Committee’s (DPCC) Anand Vihar and R K Puram stations were well above the prescribed standards on Wednesday.
The Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) air quality index (24-hour average) was in the ‘severe’ category with a reading of 407.
