All India Trinamool Congress (AITMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee was sworn in the Chief Minister of West Bengal for the second time on Friday. The 61-year-old leader took the oath in the presence of state Governor Keshri Nath Tripathi at the sprawling Red Road along with the 42-member cabinet of ministers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his congratulations on Twitter:
Dressed in a simple cotton saree, this firebrand leader who is fondly called as ‘didi’ by the masses began her second stint as the Chief Minister of the state.
The swearing-in-ceremony which is now one of the biggest oath ceremonies the state has ever had, witnessed the participation of political leaders from across the country. However, Congress, Left parties and the state BJP boycotted the event to protest against alleged post-poll violence by TMC.
