Chris Gayle, move aside. Iraq Thomas, a 23-year-old batsman who plays for Scarborough/Mason Hall in Tobago Cricket Association’s T20 tournament has slammed a 21-ball century to break the record of the fastest ton in the format.

Gayle did it in 30 balls against Pune Warriors in the IPL, but Thomas’s 15 sixes and 5 fours propelled him to three-figures and on top of the list of fastest T20 tons.

Thomas had warmed up for the innings with a 97 off 53 balls in the previous game.

“I was just very happy to reach my first T20 century. I have played cricket for a while and to get this century in the shortest format left me very happy. I played for Queen’s Park in Trinidad, so coming into this tournament I had some good experience having played at that level in Trinidad,” he told The Trinidad Guardian.

Thomas ended his innings on 131 from just 31 balls as his team beat Speyside, chasing down a 152-run target in just eight overs.
