This News Channel’s Coverage Of Chennai Floods Is An Epic Fail

Ayub Dawood

The worst flood in a century to hit Chennai has wreaked havoc in the city, and the nation was witness to a display of compassion and human spirit as people came together to help each other.

And while the media has been focusing in airing updates on the situation in Chennai, there are exceptions. Like the Tez news channel, part of the India Today group, which was caught trivialising the situation and using doctored footage to attract eyeballs.

By using special effects the channel seemed to claim that the news anchor was steadily drowning in the rising waters.

But the substandard graphics reveal that she was very much in the studio, and the visual was a very poorly doctored one.

The floods have already killed over 200 people, and the relief work is still underway. Given the gravity of the situation, it is questionable whether the channel needed to resort to such methods to sensationalise it.
