Good news for speed demons! Soon, you will be able to drive up to a top speed of 140 kmph on expressways.

Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, said this could soon be reality at an investor summit in Gurgaon earlier this week, reports Times of India.

Gadkari was speaking on the subject of driving vehicles at high speed on stretches where no slow-moving vehicles and pedestrians are allowed.

“We will come out with separate norms since such stretches will be access-controlled with minimum entry and exit points. The speed limit on other roads will be different and safety will be the parameter for setting the norms,” Gadkari said.

According to the Times of India report, Gadkari has revealed that he has initiated the process to fast-track building of new expressways between Mumbai-Vadodara, Delhi-Jaipur and Delhi-Amritsar expressways. He also went on to add that the bids for the first stretch will be out in the next 2-3 weeks.
