Social Cinema: Instagram Gets Into The Act, Debuts First Ever 28 ‘Grams Of 15 Sec Webseries

Non-traditional social and digital media platforms are becoming increasingly involved in content generation and distribution. And with that, Instagram has made its first foray into the world of filmmaking, launching its very own 28-part thriller webseries.

Shield 5 follows the story of a security driver in London who is arrested for his involvement in a diamond heist and murder and forced to go on the run to clear his name. The serialised thriller will be broadcast exclusively on Instagram daily via 15-second clips throughout February at 5pm (GMT). Anthony Wilcox (Agent Carter) co-created Shield5 with writer Adam Dewar (North Atlantic).

It’s just seven days old, but it is making all the right moves. I mean, think about it – a 7 minute short-film movie told in 28 days via 15 second Instagram clips with multimedia and visuals to help with the plot points and details. Not a bad idea at all!

What’s next? Emmy-nominated Instagram series?
