The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a petition seeking to stop the use of coins and currency notes by replacing them with digitised currency system to curb black money and corruption in the country.

A bench of Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice D Y Chandrachud dismissed the PIL saying the government was already taking steps to curb blackmoney and the petitioner could approach the high court concerned with his grievances.

“Government is moving on the path against blackmoney. If you are not satisfied, then you go and file the petition in the high court of your own state,” the bench said.

The petition filed by Haridwar’s Nyaya Dharm Sabha has said the use of coins and currency notes should be stopped completely to curb the malpractices and instead digital currency system should be brought in place.

It said the organisation’s founder had given a representation to the Ministry of Finance but nobody responded, while the Governor of Reserve Bank of India had appreciated the suggestions but nothing was done.
