In an extremely shocking incident, a four-year-old girl was kidnapped and raped by a 28-year-old man in Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy on Sunday.
The incident took place around 9 pm when the girl was playing outside her home in a slum. Subsequently, she was lured by Mohammad Junaid, a rickshawpuller, who took her to his room and raped her, reports Hindustan Times.
The girl started bleeding profusely following which Junaid picked her up and dumped her in a drain. During the act, some neighbours caught Junaid red-handed, who thrashed him and handed over to the police.
“The victim has been admitted to a hospital where she is stated to be out of danger and likely to be discharged by the evening. Her parents work odd jobs in the nearby locality,” Vikramjeet Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police said.
A case has been registered against the accused under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other relevant provisions of law.
In the meantime, Delhi Commission for Women chief, Swati Maliwal met the victim at Dr. B.S. Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini. She took to Twitter to vent out her anger against the brutal incident.
The incident has led to a massive uproar in the Rajya Sabha where members demanded stringent punishment for the accused.
When the House met for the day, Kanimozhi (DMK) and Jaya Bhaduri Bachchan (SP) raised the issue saying the victim was hospitalised with grievous injuries.
“This is not the only incident (of rape of a girl child) happening in the country… we are not very sensitive to such acts,” Kanimozhi said. Asking the government to take strict action, she said “We need stricter laws” to deal with such cases.
