This Year’s Republic Day Parade Will Showcase A Tableau Featuring PM Modi’s Note Ban

Amid the spectacular display of India’s military might and cultural diversity, this year’s Republic Day parade will also put the spotlight on Prime Minister’s Narendra Modi’s most significant drives including his recent note ban move.

Sources in Defence Ministry told India Today that the upcoming procession will see the information and technology ministry’s float demonstrating the advantages of PM Modi’s demonetisation measure while pushing for his cash-less economy campaign.

India’s 68th Republic Day pageant will see the participation of 21 floats from different states, including Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, that haven’t taken part in years. Abu Dhabi’s crown prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is expected to be the chief guest in the parade.

Sources also revealed that the floats of India’s supersonic missiles – BrahMos, Akash and Smerch – will carry a distinct flavour of PM Modi’s Make-in-India program.

Prime Minster Narendra Modi on November 8 banned high-value currency in an attempt to curb wide-spread tax evasion. The immense cash crunch faced by ordinary citizens due to the move, that was widely touted as a surgical strike against corruption and black money, continue to exist even as the 50-day-deadline sought by PM Modi to deal with it ended on December 30.
