Amid the worsening air quality of the national capital, municipal bodies are looking to charge a bit extra for parking.
According to The New Indian Express, the New Delhi Municipal Council and East Delhi Municipal Corporation have temporarily increased the parking rates, effective from Monday.
The revised charges will make you shell out ₹80 per hour to park your car and ₹40 per hour to park your two-wheeler.
The off-street parking for cars at a few locations will also see a hike and will now cost ₹200 per hour.
These will be applicable in all EDMC 51 surface parking sites and 116 NDMC surface parking sites.
According to India Times, the fee hike will be temporary. The hike falls in line with the Delhi Pollution Control Committee as a measure to control pollution. This is part of the Graded Response Action Plan.
The increase in parking charges has been implemented to dissuade people from using private vehicles which contribute a lot to the capital’s worsening air quality.
