Article 370 was scrapped today by a Presidential order presented in the Rajya Sabha by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Soon after, a Reorganisation Bill has been introduced in the Upper House that aims to bifurcate the state into 2 UTs – J&K and Ladakh.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan has issued a statement with regard to the government’s decision to revoke Article 370.

The statement reads:

“No unilateral step by the Government of India can change this disputed status, as enshrined in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions. Nor will this ever be acceptable to the people of Jammu & Kashmir and Pakistan.”

It further read:

“As the party to this international dispute, Pakistan will exercise all possible options to counter the illegal steps. Pakistan reaffirms its abiding commitment to the Kashmir cause and its political, diplomatic and moral support to the people of Occupied Jammu & Kashmir for realization of their inalienable right to self-determination.”

Reports suggest that PM Modi will be addressing the nation on this issue on 7th August.
