Lightning strikes are a common occurrence in Bihar in the month of June, with the coming of the rains. The state government has set up a compensation of Rs 4 lakh per family in case of death of a family member due to natural calamities.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau, almost 2,000 deaths have occurred due to lightning strikes India since 2005.
Several people, including the Prime Minister have expressed condolences for victims :
The number is likely to rise as more and more reports of causalities come in. According to forecasts, the heavy rains are going to continue for at least 3 more days.
