Now A Beach In Karnataka Becomes The First In India To Get Wi-Fi Connectivity

Days after Mumbai Central became the first railway station in India to get free Wifi, a Karnataka beach is all set to join the bandwagon. Malpe beach in Udupi district, one of the main tourist attractions in southern Karnataka, is now the first beach in India to have wi-fi connectivity.

Wi-fi connectivity will be available to tourists free of cost for 30 minutes at any time of the day during their visit. The facility was launched by Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj on Sunday, January 24. The initiative is supported by Centre’s Digital Drive Initiative in order to attract more tourists.

The Department of Tourism will pay the BSNL an amount of Rs. 1 lakh quarterly for the Wi-Fi service. An amount of Rs 80 lakh has been spent by Malpe beach committee for the same. The authorities are also planning to make it a round-the-clock facility for the convenience of the tourists.
