After No Price Hike In Last 5 Years, Kejriwal Announces Free Electricity Up To 200 Units From Today

On Wednesday, Chief Minister of Delhi Mr. Arvind Kejriwal tweeted and congratulated Delhiites as there has been no hike in electricity prices in last 5 years. Along with that a gift of free electricity up to 200 units was also announced by DERC.

After power regulator DERC reduced the fixed charges for electricity, there has been no hike on them in the past five years, said Arvind Kejriwal. The chief minister of Delhi congratulated all the citizens on having the lowest power tariffs compared to every other state of India with 24×7 availability of electricity.  

Kejriwal tweeted,“Congratulations Delhi For fifth consecutive year NO electricity tariff hike. On the contrary, for fifth consecutive yr (year), tariffs reduced. Delhi has lowest electricity tariffs in the country now.” 

Power Minister Satyendar Jain tweeted,”Fix charges reduced by DERC. Delhi CM @ArvindKejriwal requested for the same 3 months ago. Thanks to DERC.” 

Later, talking to reporters, Deputy CM of Delhi Mr. Manish Sisodia said,“That a person living in Delhi is supposed to pay ₹ 408 for 200 units of electricity, whereas for the same amount of electricity a person living in Noida or Gurgaon has to pay ₹910 and ₹1,310 respectively.”

Mr. Jain said,”Electricity rates have been reduced for small traders and professionals. At present, they have to pay Rs. 8.50 per unit for up to 3 kilowatts, but they will have to pay Rs. 6 per unit once the new tariff comes into effect.”

The new tariffs were announced on Wednesday by DERC which gave a breath of relief to the domestic customers in the city. DERC chairman Justice (retired) SS Chauhan said the new rates would be applicable from August 1. 

ENERGY WORLD

The new rates sought to balance the demands of the power discoms and interests of the consumers, by bringing down fixed charges while raising energy (per unit power) charges. DERC officials said that after implementation of the new rates all domestic category consumers will have savings from Rs. 105 to Rs. 750 per month, depending on their sanctioned load and unit consumption.
