The city of Mysuru may have been ranked as India’s cleanest city as per the Swachh Bharat rankings earlier this year. However, a picture of the historic Mysore Palace was shared by none other than Mysuru royal family scion, to show that people need to ensure the city stays clean.

Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar has posted a photograph of Palace Durbar hall on his Instagram account which was taken after the iconic Dussehra celebrations in the palace premises.

In his post, he slammed people for littering the palace hall with empty plastic water bottles, used paper plates and cups.

“We cannot take our cleanest city tag seriously when the very Icon of our city is treated in this manner,” he wrote in his post.

Civic agencies have said that they are looking into the matter.

“Teams of personnel from a total of 280 work in shifts to clear the trash. They work overnight,” Dr. Ramachandra, MCC’s Health Officer told The Hindu.

Mysuru’s ‘Dasara celebrations’ is a 11-day festival of Karnataka which draws tourists from not just India, but across the globe. This year, the footfall was relatively lower than the previous year owing to the ongoing Cauvery water sharing dispute, reports NDTV
