Once again, reports have emerged about the death of of Taliban leader Mullah Omar, who has not been seen in public for a few years now.
It is also reported that Pakistani authorities have confirmed his death.
Afghanistan Islamic Movement Fidai Mihaz, a splinter group of the Taliban, said earlier in July, that Omar was killed in 2013 by Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Muhammad Mansoor and Gull Agha.
There have been several reports in the past alleging the leader’s death. However, Taliban has refuted these suspicions each time.
Taliban has not yet commented on the allegations. However, according to the BBC report, they will be issuing a statement soon.
The rumour of his death resulted in a stream of comments on Twitter:
Omar was recently in the news, following an Eid message by him, in which he supported talks between Afghanistan government and the Taliban. However, it is not clear whether the message posted online was indeed from the militant leader himself or not.
