Move Over Burj: Check Out Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah Tower, Soon To Be The World’s Tallest Building

Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa, could soon lose its status as the world’s tallest building with neighbouring Saudi Arabia planning to construct the Jeddah Tower, that will be even taller.

Also to be called the Kingdom Tower, the 3,280-foot Jeddah Tower, is slated to become the first building in the world to stand one kilometre high once completed.

At 3,280 feet, the 170-storey building will be surpassing Dubai’s Burj Khalifa which is 2,722 feet high.

According to Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, which has designed the building, it will have features like:

–A luxury hotel, office space, apartments, luxury condominiums and an observatory.

–59 elevators, including 54 single-deck and five double-deck elevators and 12 escalators.

In a press release the Saudi government said the Jeddah Economic Company and Saudi Arabia’s Alinma Investment have signed a financing deal for 8.4 billion Saudi riyals (or $2.2 billion) to build Jeddah City, including the sky-piercing tower.

Talal Al Maiman, Executive Director of the Kingdom Holding Company said that financial planning for the project took over two years.

“When we formulated and prepared the financial model, which included all aspects of cost and revenue, we made sure that we studied every single one of the project’s needs,” he has said in the press release.

Mounib Hammoud, Chief Executive Officer of Jeddah Economic Company, expects the project to be finished on time in 2020.

“With this deal, we will fulfill the company’s objective of creating a world-class urban center that offers an advanced lifestyle, so that Jeddah may have a new iconic landmark that attracts people from all walks of society,” said Hammoud.
