Toni Morrison, an American writer who received the Nobel Prize in Literature, died on Monday (5th August) in New York after a short sickness, at the age of 88. Beloved and the Song of Solomon were some of her best-selling books that explored the African-Americans search for freedom and identity in a country obsessed with skin color. Most of her novels were based on black history and the effects of slavery and racism on individuals. Americans admired her as the country’s greatest living writer including former US President Barack Obama. During his administration, Toni was also awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, U.S.’s highest civilian honor.
