The People Of This Meghalaya Village Have Names Like ‘Frankenstein’ & ‘I Have Been Delivered’

When a child is born, it is his/her name that gives them a sense of identity. Names are important. Because for most of us, they last a lifetime. We literally carry them to our graves. But names can be complicated. I mean, you are reading the author’s name, you probably understand his feelings. 

Well, if you thought that was one surprising name, you should take a look at some of the names in Meghalaya. According to a report by NDTV, people named Italy, Argentina, Sweden and Indonesia will be voting in the Legislative Assembly elections.

Lovedale

According to the report, Umniuh-Tmar Elaka’s elected chief Premiere Singh, about 50% of the villagers have a fondness for English words that are synonyms of ‘good’  but do not necessarily understand what they mean. He says that you could also find Khasi names like Tuesday and Sunday in the village.  But if you think that was good, wait till you read this.

Names like Promiseland, Holyland, Jerusalem, Tripura, Goa are some of the common names of the region.

Amazing India

One of the best names in the village is that of a 30-year-old, whose mother ‘Sweater’ had named him ‘I Have Been Delivered’. And guess what, even political leaders who would be contesting in the said elections have some very famous names; Frankenstein and Kennedy.

And you thought the world wasn’t surprising anymore.
