India, Youngest Startup Nation, Ranks 3rd In Global Ecosystem; 80,000 Jobs Created

Registering a growth of 40% year-over-year, India has moved up a position to become the third fastest growing base of startups worldwide with the number of startups crossing 4,200 by the end of 2015, said Nasscom.

“We are the fastest growing eco-system in the world — so the first big wow number. Compared to last year, we have moved up from being the fourth largest ecosystem in the world to the third largest. If all goes well, next year by this time we should be the second largest,” NASSCOM president R Chandrasekhar told NDTV .

According to a report published by Nasscom in association with research firm Zinnov, around 1,200 tech startups were born in the year 2015, out of which more than 50 per cent focus on e-commerce, consumer services and aggregators business, reported The Hindu .

With $5 billion worth investment and three or four startups being born every day, India is the youngest startup nation in the world with around 72 per cent of the founders less than 35 years old, and 50 per cent rise in share of female entrepreneurs in 2015 over 2014.

Bengaluru remains the hot destination for entrepreneurs to launch their business and was ranked 15 globally. More than 65 per cent of the startups are located in Bengaluru, Mumbai and NCR. Around 26 per cent of India’s start-ups are located in Bengaluru; and NCR and Mumbai had 23 and 17 per cent respectively.

Some key points from Nasscom’s report: * India is the youngest startup nation in the world, 72% of the founders are less than 35 years old.

* $95 million funding every week

* 65+ number of M&A; deals

* More than 50% of the 1200 startups focus on ecommerce, consumer services and aggregators.

* 9% female founders and co-founders in startup ecosystem.

* Number of accelerators grew by 40% from ~80 in 2014 to ~110 in 2015.

* Total Funding in 2015, growth of ~125% over 2014.

* 80,000 jobs created by startups.

* Number of active investors grown from 220 in 2014 to 490, recording a growth of roughly 123% from a year ago.

* More than 65% of the startups are located in NCR, Mumbai and Bangalore.

* Around 3-4 startups are born each day .
