If there is one individual who deserves the title of ‘Person Of The Year 2016’, it has to be Sonam Gupta. Although the nation still doesn’t know whether she is bewafa or not, that tattered 10 rupee note bearing the thoughts of her jilted lover has sure had an impact on the lives of other Sonam Guptas living in the country.
Thanks to the internet, we got to see some hilarious memes and videos describing her bewafaai which can be regarded as the greatest unsolved mystery of 2016.
Now, this oh-so-heartbreaking tale has entered the gates of IITs. As reported by The Times of India, a professor of IIT-Guwahati incorporated the ‘Sonam Gupta bewafa hai’ meme in a probability question paper.
Determine if a person ‘x’ is bewafa, what is the probablity that Sonam Gupta is bewafa given a dependence structure between variables where all variables are binary and their high values mean the following: G means gender of ‘x’ is female (~G means the opposite), S means biological parents of ‘x’ are strict with her, W means x is wealthy, A means x is attractive, L means x has lots of options, B means x is bewafa, C means at least one other person y claims that the person x is bewafa.
The students were asked to draw a Bayesian network and convert it into a factor graph to solve this question. Fascinated by this move, one student commented –
The response is overwhelming. We all love the professor for making the question so exciting. It has spread to other IITs widely been commented up on.
Looks like the Sonam Gupta phenomenon has returned and how!
