In a tragic incident, a 17-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her home in Delhi after she failed twice in an exam. But she left behind a suicide note urging her parents to donate her organs.

Reema, a resident of north Delhi’s Maurice Nagar area, could not clear the Chemistry paper in the Class XI examinations. She appeared for a second time but did not pass, a senior police official said.

On Tuesday, when it was announced that she had failed again, Reema was shattered.

“Reema was adamant that she would clear Class 12 with good scores in science though we suggested that she change streams,” said her father, Rajesh Kumar, told The Times of India.

Reema had locked herself in the bathroom while her mother Mamta Rani was busy with household work. She then hung herself from a water pipe in the bathroom using her dupatta. Her mother raised an alarm and informed the neighbours, who managed to break down the door and took her to the hospital.

Six hours later, her parents found two suicide notes in her school bag in which she had written about her desire to donate her organs.

A senior official said the girl did not blame anyone for the extreme step in her note but the exact reason could not be ascertained from its contents.

In her suicide note, she had asked her parents to forgive her for not being able to become a good daughter and a student. She signed off the letter as as ‘Future Doctor Reema Sood’, reports India Today

During investigation, it emerged that 11 of Reema’s relatives have signed organ donation papers. Her father is an employee in the Patel Chest Institute in the Delhi University Campus.

A day after the incident, Reema’s traumatised parents also had to be admitted in a hospital.

“It was my brother who read the note and informed me about her last wish. The moment I learnt about my daughter’s noble wish, my priority was to honour her last wish at any cost. We requested the police officers to hold back their probe till the necessary consent for the donation was granted,” her father told Hindustan Times.
