Sasikala aka Chinamma has been elected unanimously by the AIADMK’s MLAs to be the next chief minister of Tamil Nadu. But not everyone in the state is happy to see her take charge in the state.

The DMK were, as expected, the first off the blocks with the party chief MK Stalin criticising it.

“One thing is certain that the government – in its present form – is clearly one that doesn’t have the explicit legitimacy of having been elected by the people. The people voted for a government to be headed by Ms Jayalalithaa in May, 2016 and not for one to be run by Mr. O Panneerselvam or any other person from Ms Jayalalithaa’s household,” Stalin had told PTI in an interview.

It was a sentiment that took found support with many opposing the elevation of the Jayalalithaa’s former confidante to the post without having contested elections.

Sofia Ashraf, best known for her song ‘Kodaikanal Won’t’, came up with a fresh song against Sasikala:

Even cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin, who usually stays away from political issues, tweeted:

Kamal Hassan also seemingly mocked the decision tweeting with a couplet in Tamil saying: “You might be loading a cart with just peacock feathers, but if the load exceeds the capacity, it will break the cart”:

And Twitterati came out in against Sasikala with #TNSaysNo2Sasi among the trending topics

And historian Ramachandra Guha put into perspective as well.

However, with the party having taken a call, it seems all that will decide Sasikala’s fate is the Supreme Court judgement in the disproportionate assets case that had been filed against her and Jayalalithaa.
