Fire In Murshidabad Govt Hospital Claims Two Lives, Injures Many

Two persons were killed while some others sustained injuries when a fire broke out in Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital on Saturday. Panic prevailed in the hospital as people ran helter-skelter leading to a near stampede.

“A fire broke out in the hospital. Two causalities were reported. Fire has been brought under control. There is no need for panic”, Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) S Saha said. He said an AC unit was the source of the fire.

Soon after the fire broke out, patients were seen coming out of the hospital while some infants were taken out of the hospital ward.

According to a report by The Hindu, the two nursing staff died due to suffocation and asphyxiation. Initial reports sat that the main exit gate of emergency was locked due to which patients and hospital staff could not come out of the building during the fire.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for next of kin of those who lost their lives
