An FIR has been registered against the editor-in-chief of Hindi news channel, Sudarshan News and self-styled godman Asaram Bapu’s son Narayan Sai in separate cases of sexual assault at a police station in Noida.
The complainant, a 36-year-old woman employee of the news channel has accused the channel’s head Suresh Chavhanke of sexually assaulting and intimidating her for over 5 years, reports The Indian Express.
According to the same complaint filed by the woman, Narayan Sai had also sexually harassed her when she had gone for a interview at his ashram at Karol Bagh, back in 2013.
However, the matter went unreported as her channel’s chief had advised her against it, the police told PTI. Reportedly, she provided the police with some photographs with respect to the case.
According to Dharmendra Singh, SSP, Gautam Budh Nagar district police, the FIR was registered after a probe was conducted on the basis of the woman’s complaint that was received 15 days ago.
The complaint states that Chavanke assaulted her from January 2011 to October 20 in 2016, as told by the police to The Indian Express.
A disappointed Chavhanke posted a copy of the FIR on Twitter and refuted the allegations
While journalist Suresh Chavhanke has been booked under IPC sections related to rape, sexual assault, harrassment and criminal intimidation, Narayan Sai has been booked for repeated sexual assault.
However, no arrests have been made so far.
