During a time when climate change has become a topic of concern, Ethiopia has broken the world record for the planting the most number of trees in 12 hours.
According to CNN, the country managed to plant 353 million tree saplings in 12 hours as part of a wider reforestation campaign called ‘Green Legacy’.
Headed by the country’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, the campaign invited millions of Ethiopian citizens to come forward and participate in this noble cause.
Ahmed had also tweeted that the country had achieved half it’s goal in just 6 hours.
The country’s minster for innovation and technology, Getahun Mekuria also tweeted about the successful campaign.
Ethiopia’s aim is reportedly to plant 4 billion trees during the rainy season.
With this the country broke India’s record when 66 million trees were planted in 12 hours.
