Intermediate second year students of Narayana Junior College in Hyderabad’s Nizampet area in Telangana allegedly vandalised the institute to protest non-resolution of their complaints by the management, said police officials on Wednesday.

Late on Tuesday night, the students went on a rampage, accusing the college management of not giving them holidays, and complained of being served low quality food. They also claimed that the bathrooms and toilets in the hostel were not being maintained properly, the police added.

Following arguments with the college authorities over these issues, some students locked the main gate at around midnight on Tuesday and damaged the furniture, lights and overhead tanks in the premises. Few protesters also locked the hostel staff in a room before ransacking the college.

The college officials later alerted the police who rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

According to a report by The News Minute, second year students informed local media that since the start of the academic year in May, they were denied any homesick leave and the administration also refused to listen to their multiple pleas.

A police official said it was wrong on part of the students to ransack the college’s property.

“If they wanted holidays they could have brought the matter to the notice of government authorities. Their behaviour was not proper,” said the official.

Inspector Kushalkar from the KBHP Colony police station informed The News Minute that the situation had returned to normal and that both the college administration and students had made peace.

“Holidays have been declared, and normalcy has returned. As of now, the college administration is yet to file a complaint. Therefore, there has been no case registered,”  the report quoted him as saying on Tuesday afternoon.
