Daler Mehndi Sentenced To 2 Years In Jail For Human Trafficking, Gets Bail Within Minutes

Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehndi has been convicted in a 2003 human trafficking case by the Patiala High Court. He has been sentenced to 2 years in jail. 

According to a report by the Financial Express, the singer was taken into police custody from Punjab after he was found guilty in the case.

Minutes after the conviction, the singer was granted bail.

In 2003, Daler and his brother, Shamsher Singh, had been accused of illegally sending people abroad as part of members of his troupe. They would then charge hefty ‘passage fee’ in return.

It had been alleged that Mehndi brothers had taken two troupes in 1998 and 1999 during the course of which 10 people were taken to US as group members and “dropped off” illegally.

The court took cognisance of the 31 complaints against the duo, after it realised that the brothers had duped the complainants of around Rs 1 crore.

He has been sentenced to 2 years jail term.
