In a bid to crack the missing case of Jawaharla Nehru University student Najeeb Ahmed, the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) on Thursday declared a reward for Rs.10 lakh for information about his whereabouts, reported ANI

“The Central Bureau of Investigation has announced a reward of Rs 10 Lakh to the general public for providing information regarding the whereabouts of Shri Najeeb Ahmed,” the CBI said in a statement issued on Thursday, as quoted by Hindustan Times

Najeeb, who’s been missing since October 16, 2016 was allegedly beaten up on October 14 by students affiliated to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) outside his room in the Mahi-Mandvi hostel in JNU.

His case was handed over to CBI by Delhi High Court on May 16 this year following an appeal by his mother Fatima Nafees. The case was previously being probed by Delhi police who failed to trace him.

“The announcement of an award is a standard procedure in case of a missing person. The investigation into Mr Najeeb’s alleged disappearance is ongoing,” Hindustan Times quoted CBI spokesperson RK Gaur as saying.
