A 53-year-old woman was strangulated allegedly by a group of men, including her domestic help, at her house in southeast Delhi’s Amar Colony on Tuesday.

However, the Indian Express reported that three of the four absconding accused have been arrested.

The incident occurred around noon when Sarita Jain’s husband and son were at work. They lived on the second floor of a building.

Describing the incident, DCP (southeast) Romil Baaniya told IE, “The incident took place around 11.30 am when the victim was at home with her domestic help, Rajan and Roshan. Four persons entered the home after Roshan let them in. After beating Rajan, they tied them up and killed the woman. They ransacked all rooms and fled with the cash and valuables.”

Rajan, who was tied up, said that three to four unidentified persons came inside the house and started ransacking it. He also stated that the perpetrators were in possession of pistols.

They strangulated the woman when she protested and then decamped with valuables worth Rs 5 lakh and Rs 20,000 in cash, police said. When the woman’s husband arrived, he found his wife in an “unconscious” state and Rajan tied up. He freed the servant and informed the police.

Cops said that the woman was rushed to a hospital where she was declared dead on arrival by doctors.

It was later revealed that Roshan was hired around two weeks ago and his verification had not been done.
