Rescue Teams Find Body Of Soldier Who Went Missing In Kargil Avalanche

The Indian Army on Sunday recovered the mortal remains of Sepoy Vijay Kumar K, who was buried under 12 feet of snow. The solider went missing in Kargil after an avalanche hit the army post earlier this week. 

The Army will be taking his body to Kargil base camp first after which, it will be taken to his native place, reports India Today.

The avalanche, triggered by a mild earthquake, hit an army post located at an altitude of 17,500 feet in Kargil sector at about 2245 hours on March 17 (Thursday).

Two soldiers, who were on surveillance duty, were swept away in the avalanche. Immediate rescue operations were launched and one soldier was rescued.

Operations were underway despite harsh weather conditions to rescue the missing soldier.

The soldier who was rescued earlier is medically stable and recovering.
