At least 14 passengers were injured in the wee hours on Tuesday, May 12, when a crude bomb exploded inside a compartment of Sealdah-Krishnanagar local train near Titagarh station in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district.

The blast took place at around 3:55 am in the fifth compartment from the engine of the local train under Eastern Railway’s Sealdah Main section.

R N Mahapatra, CPRO Eastern Railway, said the train left Sealdah station at 03:20 AM and reached Titagarh station at 03:55 AM . The blast took place just after a person boarded the train at Titagarh station.

All the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. According to the primary probe, the rivalry between two gangs could have led to the incident.

As it was the first train of the day departing for Sealdah, the number of passengers was low, or the impact of this blast could have been severe.

Along with the Railway police, CID’s Bomb Squad is also looking into the investigation.

The blast has affected normal local train services on the main line.
