Now, BJP MP Giriraj Singh Says, ‘Beef Versus Mutton Is Like Sister Versus Wife’

Since the declaration of beef ban across many states, there has been a lot of debate on the aptness of the decision of making cow slaughter illegal in 21 Indian states. However, politicians from various parties have ensured that the issue remains a hot topic of discussion by constantly making the most bizarre of statements.

Recently, BJP MP Giriraj Singh from Bihar said that beef versus mutton is like sister versus wife.

“There is a difference between a man’s relationship with his wife and that with his sister. Similarly, there is a distinction between meat of goat and cow,” said the Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, reports The Indian Express .

He is not the first politician to come up with this “great perspective” on cow slaughter. Earlier, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav had said, “Hindu also eat beef,” supporting beef consumption. Modi went on a rampage after this comment, saying that shaitan (devil) had entered Lalu’s tongue and that’s why he said what he said.

Later, Yadav completely denied ever having said that by tweeting, “I challenge Modi to show me my shaitan (devil) comment or else publicly apologise to the people of Bihar for insulting them by this barb on me.”

Another leader frpm RJD Raghuvansh Prasad Singh had once said that sages in the Vedic times used to eat meat and there is proof of it in the ancient texts. “This is an academic debate. This should not become a matter in election. It is written in Ved, Puranas that sages used to eat beef,” he told reporters, reported India TV .

Such bizarre comments never seem to stop. Every day there is new a controversy which erupts in some corner of the nation. But at least what our politicians can do is employ some sense before making such comments which worsen situations than help them improve.
