In what is considered to be a ‘one in eight million’ case, a child with progeria was born to a couple in Bangladesh. Progeria, is an extremely rare genetic disorder in which symptoms resembling aspects of ageing are manifested at a very early age. The baby was born to Parul Patro and Biswajit Patro, a poor farmer in Bhulbaria village in Bangladesh’s Magura district on Sunday, reports IndiaToday.
The family of the baby is quite ecstatic to welcome the new member and are least bothered about the judgement the baby might face because of his looks. Biswajit told IndiaToday, “”I am not unhappy, nor do I feel any sorrow that my son is different.” The family wishes for a healthy life for the baby.
Reportedly, people suffering from progeria age 8 times faster than others. Another case of progeria was reported in Khalia village in Bangladesh in February this year.
Progeria gained awareness after popular films touched upon the topic. The 2008 Hollywood blockbuster The Curious Case of Benjamin Button saw Brad Pitt age in reverse. Superstar Amitabh Bachchan played a 12 year old boy suffering from progeria in Paa.
