Apple on Monday launched its least expensive iPhone, iPhone SE, filling a hole in its product line-up with a small-screen model that targets new customers in emerging markets and fans of smaller phones.

The low-key launch was held at the technology company’s Cupertino, California campus rather than its traditional splash at a much larger venue in San Francisco.

Yeah, yeah, nice. But how much does it cost?

It’s not as ‘cheap’ as you’d think. The starting price for the iPhone SE is Rs 39,000. It was initially reported that the starting price of the phone is Rs. 30,000. However, Apple clarified that the price was actually Rs 39,000 onwards, reports NDTV.

The phone will be available in India from early April, the report said.

In what colours will it available?

iPhone SE will be available in space gray, silver, gold and rose gold metallic finishes.

The new mid-range model was seen as necessary to counter the dominance of cheaper phones running Google’s Android system.

Apple is hoping the cheaper model will stimulate overall iPhone sales, which it expects to decline this quarter for the first time since it essentially created the smartphone market nine years ago.
