In Neerja, director Ram Madhvani recreates the last day in the life of a 23-year-old flight person who was killed in 1986.

Neerja Bhanot had saved the lived of 359 people when a plane was hijacked in 1986. She was shot dead while taking passengers to safety and was posthumously awarded.

Anupama Chopra in her review for Film Companion says she was among those who was skeptical if Kapoor would be able to bring out the nuances of Neerja Bhanot.

“Sonam’s most effective works have been in comedies. She is known for her impeccable taste in clothes rather than her acting jobs. Physically, Sonam has a resemblance to Neerja but I wondered if she could be convincing enough emotionally to carry a project like this. Actually she’s just right. Sonam deep dives into Neerja,” Chopra said.

Chopra gave the film four stars and has some valuable advice: “take a few hankies with you”.
