An army soldier has been martyred today in a gunbattle with terrorists in Anantnag. Two terrorists have also been gunned down in the encounter.
The terrorists are reportedly linked to the Pulwama attack of February.
The encounter comes a day after an army convoy was attacked with an IED in a village in Pulwama, just a few kilometres away from the site of February attack on CRPF jawans. 6 soldiers were injured in the attack.
On Monday, an army Major was also martyred and 3 soldiers were injured fighting terrorists in another gunbattle in Anantnag.
A police officer who happened to be there during the encounter mentioned,
There was an input about the presence of terrorists in the area after which we condcuted a search operation. During the operation, they opened fired at the Army officers, which lead to an encounter.
The increase in the spate of attacks in the recent past, presents a grim picture where over 10 security personnel have lost their lives fighting terrorists in the area, in a span of 5 days.
Last week, a lone Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist attacked a patrol team of the paramilitary force in Anantnag, killing five CRPF personnel.
